The Scratch Pad- Intro to Dry Tooling- Provo Canyon
Drytooling is a form of rock climbing where you climb with ice tools on rock. It began as an offshoot of ice climbing and alpinism where in order to access an ice climb, climbers used their tools to climb over rock to access the ice- in what is referred to as "mixed climbing." However, people have discovered how fun it can be and now climb on rock with tools year-round! It is considered one of the newest forms of rock climbing, but in fact is really the oldest, as early alpinists used their ice axes to climb up difficult rock faces in the mountains. Now, it's just become a lot more fun!
Join us for a full day of learning the basics of dry-tooling outdoors! Our guide, Susan Sims, recently developed a brand new dry-tooling crag perfect for beginners. We will meet in Provo Canyon at 8 AM and climb till 3 PM.
